Abstract
We retrospectively reviewed 93 patients (66 men and 27 women) with non-small cell lung cancer who underwent pulmonary resection from March 2009 to February 2014 at Jeju National University Hospital. Operative mortality was 1.1% and significant postoperative morbidity was 6.5%. The proportion of never-smokers, stage I diseases, adenocarcinoma, and well-differentiated type of cancers were greater in women (88.9% vs 17.5%, 81.5% vs 59.1%, 92.6% vs 51.5%, and 48.1% vs 10.6%, respectively) (p < .001). Rate of recurrence was higher as the pathologic stage was advanced. However, median time of recurrence-free survival has limited value because of short period of follow-up. We had acceptable level of postoperative mortality and morbidity and should continue to do aggressive postoperative care and to make an effort to avoid pneumonectomy in order to decrease mortality and morbidiyt.
Key Words: Carcinoma, non-small cell lung, Thoracic surgery
